Interns in Action

Whether at Amazon, Siemens or the League of Arab States, AUC students are applying their academic foundations to real-world challenges.

Shady Sawires, mechanical engineering senior (Amazon): “In Summer 2024, I was part of a dynamic, fast-paced softlines team at Amazon as a retail vendor manager intern. The experience challenged me to grow quickly and solve real-world problems at scale. I was honored to receive a return offer the next summer as an instock management analyst, focusing on forecasting-
themed projects. This role taught me the value of staying curious and constantly learning. It has greatly influenced my academic interests and future career goals in data-driven engineering and supply chain analytics.”

“The culture of clarity, precision and depth shaped the way I approach
problem solving in both academic and professional settings. Some of
the most defining lessons in engineering aren’t taught — they’re
experienced.”

Ahmed Elkhodary (Siemens), computer engineering senior: “Spending Summer 2025 at Siemens EDA as a software engineering intern was a turning point that reshaped how I think as an engineer. The culture of clarity, precision and depth shaped the way I approach problem solving in both academic and professional settings. Some of the most defining lessons in engineering aren’t taught — they’re experienced.

Carla Farah, construction engineering senior (El Soadaa Group): “My first internship in construction engineering was with El Soadaa Group, and I found the opportunity through the AUC Career Web. What I liked most was how organized the company was. Every day, we had a clear schedule and specific learning objectives. I learned a lot about foundations, concrete work and quality control. After this internship, I realized that construction management suits me best, so I declared a concentration in construction management and technology.”

Marwan Abdelwahab, accounting senior (PwC): “I interned at PwC in the core assurance team during Summer 2025. After beginning with basic tasks, we started getting involved in audit work. That’s when I used what I’ve learned at AUC, and I realized how solid my background is compared to interns from other universities in Egypt and abroad. I was frequently asked to explain concepts to the other interns and also review their work. This experience gave me a much clearer idea of what I want to do after graduation and made me appreciate the level of education I’ve received at AUC.”

Haya Wael, Middle East studies and economics junior (League of Arab States): ”Interning at the Arab League has been my top priority since I first started college, knowing how pivotal the league is to the Arab political landscape. What I’ve valued most is the cross-cultural environment, working alongside people from across the Arab world, each bringing their own perspective but united in purpose. I was honored to attend the latest session of the Arab Council, where I witnessed how political decisions are shaped behind closed doors, far beyond what the public sees. As a double major in Middle East studies and economics, this experience has given real weight to my academics, especially as I contributed to reports on the occupied Palestinian territories and gained a deeper understanding of international law as well as the legal violations taking place. It’s an experience that has not only shaped my academic path but also clarified the kind of regional impact I hope to make in the future.”
